Services: What Dental Crowns Can Do for You
Dental crowns or caps are a highly versatile solution for any dental condition. Crowns are individualized restorations cemented on a damaged or broken tooth to renew its shape, size, and function. At Lancaster Dental, we use crowns to:
- Restore a severely decayed tooth
- Protect a cracked or fractured tooth from further damage
- Cover a tooth after root canal therapy
- Replace a loose or worn-down filling
- Securing a dental bridge in position
- Replace a tooth with an implant
- Improve the appearance of a crooked or discolored tooth for a more balanced smile.
Our crowns are carefully crafted to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth, providing you with a pleasing and natural look. We work closely with dental laboratories to ensure that we design high-quality porcelain, ceramic, metal alloy, or a combination of crowns for you according to your needs.
The Dental Crown Procedure
Your smile journey begins with a comprehensive consultation and exam. Here is what you can expect:
- First Exam: Chavez will examine the tooth's condition and decide if a crown is best. First and foremost, any condition, such as infection or decay, will be treated.
- Preparation of Tooth: The tooth is reshaped to make space for the crown. This provides an exact fit for the final restoration.
- Impressions and Temporary Crown: The exact impressions are shipped and processed to a dental lab. Meanwhile, a temporary crown is cemented to cover the tooth.
- Crown Placement: You will return once your crown is prepared to have the crown seated. Dr. Chavez double-checks the fit and bite and then cements it.
The process typically takes two visits, and we strive to make it as smooth and comfortable as possible.
How Dental Bridges Work with Crowns
A dental bridge is proposed to fill that space if you have a missing tooth. Two crowns on two teeth on either side of the missing tooth create a bridge. Crowns hold the middle artificial tooth and provide a complete and natural smile. Bridges are made to hold securely and comfortably, and crowns play a significant role.
